Here are the main cooling tower drift eliminator types, used to reduce water droplets carried out of the tower by the air stream:

1. PVC Cellular (Honeycomb) Cooling Tower Drift Eliminator Types

Most common type in modern cooling towers.

Features

* Made of PVC sheets bonded in a cellular / honeycomb pattern

* Multiple direction changes (zig-zag) force droplets to collide and fall back

* High efficiency: 0.001–0.005% drift loss

* Low pressure drop

* Used in BAC, Marley, EVAPCO towers

Where Used

Factory-assembled towers (counterflow & crossflow)

2. Triple-Pass (3-Pass) Cooling Tower Drift Eliminator Types

A subtype of cellular eliminators with three forced air direction changes.

Features

* Very high droplet capture

* Common in high-performance counterflow designs

* Lower drift emission compliance (<0.0005%)

3. Blade Type Cooling Tower Drift Eliminator Types

Older design, seen in large industrial / field-erected towers.

Features

* Parallel blades (PVC or FRP)

* Droplet removal through two-pass or multi-pass blade curvature

* Higher pressure drop vs cellular

* Efficiency lower than cellular

Where Used

* Large mechanical draft or natural draft towers

* FRP or galvanized steel construction

4. S-Blade / C-Blade Cooling Tower Drift Eliminator Types

Improved blade design with curved S or C profiles.

Features

* Higher efficiency than flat blades

* Often used in Hamon, SPX Marley, and Paharpur FE towers

* Good for field-erected units needing customizable panel sizes

5. Modular Cooling Tower Drift Eliminator Types Blocks

Panels made of multiple PVC or PP modules clipped together.

Features

* Easy installation & replacement

* Used in both crossflow and counterflow towers

* Can be combined with fill sections

* Available in rigid or lightweight versions

6. FRP Cooling Tower Drift Eliminator Types

High-strength composite eliminators.

Features

* Resistant to corrosion and UV

* High temperature resistance (up to 100°C)

* Higher cost

* Typical in power plants, refineries, petrochemical plants

7. Aluminum Cooling Tower Drift Eliminator Types

Not common today but used in old metal towers.

 Features

* Lightweight

* Moderate efficiency

* Corrosion prone
